415 Catering (www.415catering.com) is seeking a talented, motivated, preferably bilingual (english/spanish) sous chef or executive sous to lead early morning crews in one of our departments. 

We are a chef-directed, full-service events planning and catering company in SF's Dogpatch District. We endeavor to bring Michelin-level culinary standards to a catering setting.  Our culinary leadership comes from top-rated restaurant kitchens in the Bay Area and elsewhere, and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to work consistently with talented cooks from some of the best kitchens in the area.  We have a growing network of local, organic farms from whom we purchase directly, and strive to use solid culinary technique to make the best food possible in a wide range of contexts, using flavors and aesthetics that range from classic to contemporary.

415 Catering is one of several culinary programs that we operate, which do everything from weddings (lrecatering.com), to conferences and corporate holiday parties, to multi-course seated dinners in private homes (foxtailcatering.com). Our production team handles everything from the simplest cocktail parties to full-service event design and produciton. The 415 Catering Program, the program we're hiring for currently, is specifically focused on daily dining, providing buffet-style lunch service in SF offices. We do just one menu per day for all our clients around the Bay Area, allowing us to change our menu daily and offer high quality cuisine, while still offering an extremely affordable option for Bay Area companies.

The executive sous chef position is a demanding position that requires a high degree of dedication, organization, and flexibility. Qualified candidates will exhibit an exceptional level of passion, creativity, maturity and commitment.  Management style is as important to us as culinary knowledge -- we seek a manager who will lead by example and who can use an instructive style to empower and motivate his or her team to give their all on a daily basis.  The expectations for efficiency, responsibility and dedication we place on our staff are consistent with those found in fine dining restaurant kitchens, but we value respectful communication, the creation of opportunities for advancement & growth, and the cultivation of individual confidence and creativity among all our cooks, from the greenest to the most experienced.  We are looking for someone who can demonstrate teamwork but who will also take ownership over this program to help us make it the unequivocal best of its kind in the city.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • 2-4 years kitchen management experience required. 3-5 years experience in fine dining restaurant kitchens including Michelin starred, SF Chronicle 3-Starred or higher, or the equivalent. 1-3 years catering experience preferred
  • Experience with administrative work such as ordering, prep lists is strongly preferred. Proficiency with Google Sheets and/or Excel is ideal.
  • Must be bilingual (Spanish/English) and be able to communicate with both English and Spanish-speaking prep cooks.
  • Familiarity and comfort with a wide range of global cuisines and must have a passion for food, and an interest in both fine dining and exceptional, approachable cuisine
  • Flexibility with hours and responsibilities. Expected needed coverage will be Monday - Friday but flexibility highly desired. Shift timing could vary, but early morning availability is a plus.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills; Must be proactive, detail-oriented, accountable and professional
  • Strong work ethic, leads by example, teaching-focused style
  • Servsafe Certified with Manager Certification 
  • Able to work on your feet for 10 hours, lift and carry 50+ lb
  • Ability to make two year commitment preferred
