We are looking for a Human Resources Director (located at the Detroit Airport) to manage Human Resources department and assist in administration of human resources policies, procedures, and practices. This role will function as the central contact for information specific to human resources and facilitating implementation of the necessary systems to ensure employees are treated with dignity, fairly, and consistently.

Essential Functions

  • Acts as a strategic business partner to the business. The position will design, build and execute strategic HR programs that drive exceptional business performance.
  • Manage and develop HR staff; assistant and coordinator.
  • Create and maintain open door policies to ensure strong communication with the team.
  • Knowledge and practice of FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, OSHA, COBRA, etc.
  • Process FMLA requests, as needed.
  • Provide coaching and counseling to management and employees.
  • Resolve employee issues/concerns within a timely manner.
  • Directs and/or performs internal investigations of employee allegations.
  • Communicate with the management team on a daily basis.
  • Collaborate with the union to resolve employee issues.
  • Maintain personnel files with current compensation, benefit, performance, and mandated information, etc. Provide information to authorized persons, and upload files to document personnel actions and/or other information.
  • Act as key recruitment contact, developing community relationships. Recruits personally the key talents for the organization; identify short, medium and long term resourcing issues. 
  • Coordinate interview process, manage pre-employment screening and correlate job offer process.
  • Develop relationships with airport clients to ensure client retention and badge compliance.
  • Maintain records for use in employee benefits administration and conducts meetings with employees as necessary to ensure all eligible employees are familiar with their benefit package during open enrollment.
  • Ability to initiate and implement necessary plans and programs to ensure legal compliance.
  • Participate in bi-weekly Directors conference calls and weekly GM meetings.
  • Process parking and/or badging invoices.
  • Ensure badges are being processed i.e. separations and retrieving badges according the airport policy.
  • Process payroll information such as new hires and new hire orientation hours.
  • Develop effective working relationships, influencing, challenging the senior management team on the development of their people.
  • Lead organizational change initiatives to achieve improvements in organization effectiveness.
  • Identifies, develops, and implements new policy and procedures.
  • Contribute to the development of the wider HR strategy and work closely with Human Resource Leadership to ensure cohesive and coordinated services across the company.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of legal guidelines that guide an employer to ensure all persons; (candidates or employees) are treated ethically, morally, and within the requirements of the law.

Specific Knowledge and Skills

  • Previous experience in HR Management

  • Analytical and problem solving skills


  • 7 years of HR experience required
  • Union experience is required
  • HR certification preferred, not required; SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP
  • Hospitality experience highly preferred


  • Bachelor Degree in Human Resource Management or similar field of study preferred.
