Wise Sons Deli is a modern Jewish delicatessen founded in 2010 in San Francisco. With four locations and a presence at the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market, we are a rapidly growing company, having opened our second bagel shop this July and opening our third in the next few weeks in Hayes Valley. We serve Jewish comfort food with a modern twist and have been featured in Bon Appetit, Vice, Saveur, The Food Network and on national TV.

Job Overview:

AGM:

The Assistant General Manager is responsible for maintaining and leading service during each shift. The AGM is a leader in the FOH and direct support to the General Manager, working closely with the Kitchen Manager (where applicable). The AGM sets the tone for the FOH, interfacing with and ensuring the customer’s needs are met, and the BOH, verifying that food quality and safety is maintained. The Assistant General Manager serves as Manager on Duty when the GM is off.

The ideal candidate has restaurant server as well as barista and cashier experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated leadership abilities, and technical skills. This is an hourly position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee FOH as “shift lead”
    • Interface with customers, taking orders/reservations, touching tables, check voicemail
    • Ensure that every plate of food served is up to Wise Sons standards and speed of service is maintained; Monitor complaints and address concerns and feedback as necessary
    • Ensure catering orders
      are completed on time, as advised by GM and KM
    • Oversee the cleanliness and organization of the deli utilizing open/close checklists to preserve the cleanliness of the unit including equipment maintenance and safety
  • Manage FOH hourly employees
    • Lead and train staff for efficient service, using manuals and leading by example
    • Document and monitor staff breaks and hours
    • Promote and train
      weekly specials and holiday menus
  • Maintain daily food and beverage orders, as necessary
    • Ensure proper storage of all foodstuffs and product rotation is maintained
  • Financial management
    • Upload receipts and invoices to invoicing software – by end of shift daily
    • Manage cash handling, including bank deposits and tip counting and reporting
    • Daily financial reporting, POS updates and audits (menu pricing), upload receipts and invoices, enter CTUIT communications logs, and all HR related procedures

Cashier:

The Cashier is responsible for maintaining and leading service during each shift. The Cashier sets the tone for the FOH, interfacing with and ensuring the customer’s needs are met, and the BOH, verifying that food quality and safety is maintained. The ideal candidate has restaurant server experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated leadership abilities, and technical skills. This is an hourly position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Interface with customers, taking orders, touching tables, sales-oriented
    • Give friendly, gracious, and knowledgeable service to guests. Maintain professionalism no matter what. Greet and direct customers to the register (10 and 5 rule)
    • Fluency in menu to answer guest questions, especially with regard to ingredients and allergies
    • Monitor complaints and address concerns and feedback as necessary
    • Receive pick up orders over the phone or Caviar tablet, and to multitask this with a line of customers
    • Communicate with the expo effectively on any ticket changes
  • Cash handling responsibilities
    • Fluency with POS enough to order efficiently and without error
    • Receive credit card and cash payments, split payments, issue refunds, and comps
  • Maintain the overall organization and cleanliness of the register area
    • Restock sodas as needed, and especially before going on break
    • Check the outside area: wipe tables, change garbage bags if full
  • Ensure that every plate of food served is up to Wise Sons standards and speed of service is maintained
  • Support fulfillment of catering orders
  • Oversee the cleanliness and organization of the bagel shop utilizing open/close checklists to preserve the cleanliness of the unit

The ideal candidates will posses the following qualities:

  • Professional and motivational leadership skills with the ability to work in a diverse and fast paced environment; Creating a warm, welcoming work environment and sustaining the company culture
  • Be able to communicate effectively with managers and staff; Spanish language skills a plus
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; Must be tech savvy or willing to learn
  • Expect to work 35-40 hours per week - Weekend availability is expected
  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
