The account director is responsible for planning, coordinating and directing accounts and advertising/marketing campaigns by performing the following duties personally or by coordinating with their account team. The Account Director is seasoned enough to run an account from a strategic standpoint on their own. In additional, account directors are expected to manage, set goals and inspire growth within their account team. They are also expected to generate new business opportunities both within their existing and new accounts. Their primary focus is client service and managing their team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Confers with client, utilizing product/produce knowledge and research to determine advertising goals and budgets.
  • Uses market research information to evaluate, adjust and redirect campaign.
  • Negotiates proposal and budget with client, making modifications as necessary and arranging for contract signing.
  • Submits campaign proposals, suggested concepts, and estimated budgets to corporate management for approval, making modifications if necessary.
  • Coordinates activities with client services team in order to carry out approved campaign within budget and time limitations.
  • Maintains confidentiality while working closely with client regarding all aspects of campaign and budgets.
  • Serves as liaison between corporate management and the client services, creative and traffic teams.
  • Understands and uses market research and media information to evaluate, adjust and redirect campaign.
  • Builds and nurtures productive business relationships both with clients and staff.
  • Facilitates creative sessions as necessary. Approves creative briefs.
  • Effectively presents, pitches, and defends all agency work/proposal to clients; supports other client services team members in these functions.
  • Keeps apprised of clients’ brands/products/services/marketing developments.
  • Creates a strong working relationship with key contacts. Attends all meetings as requested by client.
  • Prepares proposals, marketing/media/public relations plans.
  • Regularly checks for and immediately responds to all client communication including emails, messages, phone calls, faxes, etc.
  • Assists in review of Hot Sheets, client billing; codes invoices and tracks billable time on a daily basis.
  • Participates in development of new business for agency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manage two or more employees in the Client Services department.  Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of their team members. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; mentoring and goal setting; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; 6-8 years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate will:

  • Language Skills. Have the ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Have the ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.  Possess the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the public.
  • Written Skills. Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet needs; presents numerical data effectively; able to read and interpret written information.
  • Mathematical Skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Reasoning Ability. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database, Internet, project management, spreadsheet and word processing software.
