Two positions are currently open:

  1. a $30-50/hr. contract (initially) position for probate and guardianship work; and

 

  1. a $40-60/hr. General Counsel Pro Tem position.

Both positions may evolve into full-time positions subject to performance and mutual interest.

Overview

We are a unique Seattle-based Social Purpose Corporation (SPC) focused on constitutional advocacy and civil rights issues. The scope of our work is national.

Our initial focus is guardianship and probate fraud. Our broad public justice mandate, however, provides a basis for legal standing in existing or potential actions relating to our initial focus, as well other important public interest issues in the future. Our independent funding allows us to work free of political influence.

Position I: $30-50/Hr. Contract Probate and Guardianship.

Position Summary & Responsibilities. 

Contract counsel reports to the GC. There is no formal job description, only a requirement of flexibility and dedication to the fundamental charter of the organization as defined below. The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Develop problem definitions from conversations with supervising counsel, and present creative solutions to problems to accomplish given objectives. We want to hear solutions to a given issue, as well as challenges.
  • Maintain flexibility regarding strategy and tactics as necessary to accomplish objectives.
  • Respect deadlines.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • History of effectively serving a demanding client base in a complex and fast-paced work environment.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Ability to communicate difficult legal concepts clearly and non-legalistically to business clients orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm and diplomacy both individually and collaboratively as part of a team effort.
  • Comfortable with change and ambiguity

Position II: $40-60/Hr. General Counsel Pro Tem & Long-Term GC.

Position Summary & Responsibilities.

The General Counsel reports only to the Executive Director, and a board of one. Strategic and resource decisions will be made by the Executive Director in seconds, not weeks, months, or years. There is no formal job description, only a requirement of flexibility and dedication to the fundamental charter of the organization as defined below. The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Understand and share a vision with the Executive Director regarding basic strategy and execution.
  • Maintain flexibility regarding strategy and tactics as necessary to accomplish objectives;
  • Be willing to confront and outmaneuver substantial political and economically-influential opponents.
  • Manage outside counsel as needed.
  • Remain current on new and emerging US laws and regulations regarding priority cases.
  • Set the bar high for staff and outside counsel through excellence in practice – quality of work and adherence to deadlines.
  • Travel for work purposes, when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated authentic commitment to public justice, ideally at significant personal cost.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • History of effectively serving a demanding client base in a complex and fast-paced work environment.

About Our Fundamental Organizational Purpose

The mandate of our Seattle-based Social Purpose Corporation is limited to three principal objectives:

 

  1. Advocacy and direct support of the U.S. Constitution and federal rights through legal action.
  2. Advocacy and direct support of public interest issues requiring legal intervention and action in individual cases.
  3. Advocacy and direct support of public interest issues requiring legal intervention in class action cases.

It is our conviction that justice requires both faith in the principles of the constitution, and great practical effort to keep those principals alive.

About Our Approach to Issues and Cases

Broad Mandate/Legal Standing. Our broad public justice mandate provides a basis for legal standing in existing or potential legal actions with issues related to constitutional and federal rights or public interest.

Support of Law Enforcement. By basic mandate, in every case involving criminal activity, we offer unrestricted proactive support to local and/or federal law enforcement to accomplish joint public interest objectives as efficiently as possible.

Justice Requires Persistence. When we read the words of the framers of our constitution and founders of our county, they speak to us across time. They remind us that the only rights we may expect to have are those we are willing to preserve through constant effort.

About Our Funding

 

Funding. We are non-partisan with unrestricted funding. Although we are currently self-funded, we will accept anonymous support via blind trusts in the future. We decline all restricted funding.

 

Organizational Summary

 

We are objective-oriented, free of dress codes outside of the courtroom, office politics, and completely focused on our work and purpose.
